Vera Jayne Palmer, professionally known as Jayne Mansfield (born on April 19, 1933) in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, U.S. She was an American actress, singer, and model. She has also worked as a Playboy Playmate, and nightclub entertainer.
Career
Her father, Herbert William Palmer, was an attorney, and her mother, Vera Jeffrey Palmer. Palmer was the only child of her parents. She spent her childhood in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. In 1936, her father died because of a heart attack. Later, her mother married Harry Lawrence Peers, who is a sales engineer.
After that, the family moved to Dallas, Texas, where she was born and grew up as Vera Jayne Peers. When she was a child, she always wanted to be a Hollywood star. Her idol was Shirley Temple. At age 12, she took ballroom dance lessons and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1950. While being a student in high school, Palmer took violin, piano, and viola lessons.
As a teen, she also learned Spanish and German. She regularly received grades in the high Bs in all subjects.
At age 17, she married Paul Mansfield. Their daughter, Jayne Marie Mansfield, was born six months later in November. The couple joined Southern Methodist University to study acting. After that, she moved to LA and attended a summer semester at UCLA. She entered the Miss California contest.
Paul forced her to resign when found out. Then the couple moved to Austin, Texas, and studied dramatics together at the University. There she worked as a nude art model, sold books, and worked as a receptionist at a dance studio. She also joined the Curtain Club. After that, she spent a year at Camp Gordon, Georgia (a US Army training facility) when Paul Mansfield served in the U.S. Army Reserve in the Korean War.
