Career
Philipps is best known for her roles on the Freaks and Geeks (1999 to 2000, TV series). She has starred in Dawson’s Creek (2001 to 2003, TV series). She starred in the sitcom Cougar Town (2009 to 2015, TV series).
Philipps also played supporting roles in many films. Including The Smokers (2000), Home Room (2002), White Chicks (2004), The Gift (2015), I Feel Pretty (2018), and many more. From 2018 to 2019, Philipps hosted her own television talk show Busy Tonight, on the E! channel. Currently, she stars as Summer in the original Girls5eva (2021, TV series) on Peacock.
She attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. In 2003, she received the Teen Choice Awards nominations for Choice TV: Sidekick. In 2010, she won Entertainment Weekly for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She also won the Critics’ Choice Television Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2011.
In 2018, she published the book This Will Only Hurt a Little. She opened up About Being a Survivor of Sexual Abuse on The Ellen Show. On the show, she is encouraging others to speak their truth and never keep something in. “This conversation needs to happen more, and people need to first teach your children to speak up, never be ashamed, and think that it’s your problem and your fault because it’s never your fault. You were a child. Period.”
